What Happens During a Mobile Groom? A Step-by-Step Guide

If you've never used a mobile grooming service before, you might be wondering what actually happens. Where does the water come from? Is the van big enough? What equipment is in there? Let's walk through the entire process from arrival to a freshly groomed dog.

Before We Arrive

The day before your appointment, we'll send you a reminder with your arrival window. On the morning of your groom, you'll receive an "on my way" text message so you know exactly when to expect us. All we need from you is a parking space — either on your driveway or on the street directly outside your home.

Setting Up

When we arrive, we park up and get the van ready. Our van is completely self-contained — we carry our own fresh water, power generator, and waste water tank. We don't need your water, electricity, or any other facilities. The van heats up quickly and is fully lit with professional lighting.

Collecting Your Dog

Once we're set up, we'll knock on your door and collect your dog. Most dogs are curious about the van and walk straight in. For nervous dogs, we take our time and let them sniff around before gently guiding them onto the hydraulic grooming table.

The Consultation

If it's your first visit, we'll have a quick chat about what you'd like. We'll check your dog's coat condition, discuss the style you're after, and note any sensitive areas or health concerns. For returning clients, we'll already have your preferences on file — but we always check in case you'd like something different.

The Groom

Every full groom follows a similar pattern, though we adapt to each dog's needs:

1. Brush and De-tangle — We start by thoroughly brushing through the coat to remove any loose hair and tangles. This is also when we assess the coat condition and check for any matting that might require a different approach.

2. Bath — Using warm water from our onboard system, we give your dog a thorough bath with professional shampoo suited to their coat type. Dogs with skin conditions or allergies get specialist hypoallergenic products.

3. Blow Dry — We use professional stand dryers and hand dryers to dry the coat thoroughly. Proper drying is essential — it's what gives the coat that fluffy, finished look.

4. Clip or Scissor — Depending on the style and breed, we'll use clippers, scissors, or both to shape the coat. This is the creative part — turning your scruffy pup into a show-stopper.

5. Finishing Touches — Nail trim, ear clean, sanitary trim, face and paw tidying, and a spritz of finishing spray. These small details make a big difference to the overall result.

After the Groom

Once your dog is looking their best, we'll send you a text to let you know they're ready. You come to the van, we hand over one very handsome dog, and that's it. No fuss, no waiting, no drama. Your dog walks straight back into their own home.

We'll also take a quick before and after photo for your dog's record (with your permission), and make notes about the groom for next time — things like clip length, any areas to watch, and how your dog behaved.

How Long Does It Take?

A full groom typically takes between 60 and 120 minutes depending on your dog's size, breed, and coat condition. Bath and dry services are shorter at 40–75 minutes. We never rush — your dog gets as much time as they need.
